15 Essential Sounds Every House Producer Must Know

In this video, I’m sharing some of the most essential sounds that every house producer and beatmaker should know. Whether you’re producing classic old-school house or contemporary underground house, you’ll discover many useful sounds here.

We start with the Korg M1, an iconic synthesizer used in both commercial hits and underground house tracks. Think Robin S. – Show Me Love and Crystal Waters – Gypsy Woman. The Korg M1 House Piano is another classic sound, but since it has been overused lately, you might prefer the Yamaha CP-70, an electric piano designed to mimic an acoustic piano.

Speaking of electric pianos, house music wouldn’t be the same without the Fender Rhodes Mark I and the Wurlitzer. These warm, organic sounds have shaped countless tracks.

I also love Latin percussion sounds, so we’ll explore Roland drum machines like the TR-727, TR-626, and TR-505, all of which have been heavily used in house music.

For acid house, the legendary Roland TB-303 is a must-know. I’ll also use it to demonstrate how different filters shape sound, including those that create formant filter-style effects.

Another crucial sound is the Lately Bass, originally from the Yamaha TX81Z but also possible on the DX7. This bass was used for the lead sound in the underground classic Lil’ Louis – French Kiss.

We’ll also explore additive synthesis for crafting unique bass tones, along with subtractive synthesis using synths like the Roland Juno-6 and Juno-60, which are fantastic for bass, pads, and chords.

No discussion of house music sounds would be complete without mentioning the Minimoog, famous for the classic Moog Bass sound. It’s also great for creating intricate sequenced patterns.

Finally, we’ll take a deep dive into sine waves and how they can be used to create everything from sub-bass to electric pianos, kick drums, and FX sounds.

If you’re passionate about house music production, this video is packed with inspiration and knowledge. Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more!
