Bring the Proteus into your computer workflow
The Proteus 2000 combines multitimbral playback, layered sounds and a deep modulation system behind a compact rack-panel display. Olean’s editor brings the part mixer, preset list and sound controls into separate computer views, so you can find sounds and build a setup without repeatedly moving between front-panel menus.
Inside the current editor
- 32-part mixer: presets, volume, pan and mute across the A and B MIDI inputs, with 16 strips per mixer page.
- Preset browser: search by name or sound type, filter by bank, sort the list and organise sounds into four renameable favourite banks.
- 1,536 preset-name entries: factory ROM names and factory-default USER names. These are a reference list, not a live inventory of the sounds stored in your own unit.
- Twelve realtime controls: A–L MIDI CC controls for the selected part, with configurable controller assignments.
- Four-layer sound view: filters, envelopes, LFOs and modulation patchcords, plus separate effects and master-control views. Their real-device behaviour is awaiting validation.
- Project workflow: host parameters and editor state can be stored with a DAW project; multi-setup files and contextual help are implemented.
Hardware, formats and requirements
The intended instrument is the E-MU Proteus 2000. Compatibility with other Proteus-family modules is not established.
Planned macOS formats: VST3, Audio Unit and Standalone. A Windows release is not confirmed. Final downloadable formats, supported OS versions and DAW compatibility will be confirmed before launch.
For the full 32-part workflow, use a MIDI interface with two outputs connected to MIDI IN A and B and select direct MIDI ports in the editor. Host routing currently carries port A only. To hear the instrument, connect the Proteus audio outputs to your audio interface.
What it is and isn’t
This is a controller for the physical sound module, not a Proteus software emulation or a sound library. It does not add ROM sounds to the instrument. The current build sends settings to the unit and has no automatic read-back that fills the controls with the hardware’s current values.
There are no save-to-hardware preset commands in the current build. Sound edits target temporary settings; keeping them permanently requires the instrument’s own save procedure.
Proteus 2000 editor FAQ
Will it read the names in my USER banks?
Not in the current build. USER entries display factory-default names, which may differ from presets you have saved on your Proteus.
Can one instance address both MIDI inputs?
The implemented direct-port workflow has separate outputs for A and B. A two-output MIDI interface is needed for all 32 parts; host routing currently addresses A only.
Does it include a finished Windows version?
No Windows release is available. Windows build targets are present, but their operation has not been verified.
Can I buy it now?
Not yet. The planned launch price is €24.00, and ordering will open only when a finished download is available.
