Make four-operator FM easier to see
The TX81Z packs algorithms, operator ratios, envelopes and performance settings into a small rack display. The editor puts the four operators beside each other and shows their algorithm connections, making it easier to understand which operator shapes the sound and which one you are changing.
Rarely used controls sit behind a Details switch. Voice shaping, library browsing and performance setup have their own views, so routine sound design does not require stepping through every hardware menu.
Inside the current editor
- Visual FM editing: eight algorithm previews, four operator strips, draggable envelopes, waveform/level/ratio/detune controls and detailed scaling settings.
- Sound-design tools: Bright, Attack, Decay and Release macros, Randomize, Mutate, A/B comparison and voice undo/redo.
- Four-corner morphing: place voices at four corners, blend their parameters and save the result as a preset.
- Preset library: search, categories, tags, favourites and notes, with single-voice and 32-voice-bank .syx import/export.
- Performance and bank views: eight instrument parts, quick layer/split setups, internal voice-bank organisation and performance memory controls.
- Tuning and device effects: octave/full-keyboard microtuning, Scala .scl import and TX81Z Delay, Pan and Chord settings.
- MIDI workflow: direct ports or host routing, incoming SysEx handling, MIDI log and voice automation stored with the DAW project.
Hardware, formats and requirements
The intended instrument is the Yamaha TX81Z. Compatibility with other Yamaha FM models is not confirmed.
Planned macOS formats: VST3, Audio Unit and Standalone. A Windows or Max for Live release is not confirmed. Final supported OS versions and DAW compatibility will be listed before launch.
Use a computer MIDI interface connected to the TX81Z MIDI IN, plus a return connection from MIDI OUT for receiving voices and device data. Enable SysEx on the TX81Z. Stored-memory writes require an intentional write operation and Memory Protect off. Connect the TX81Z’s audio outputs to your audio interface to hear it.
What it is and isn’t
This software edits the physical TX81Z through MIDI. It is not an FM sound-generating plugin and does not replace the rack unit. Morphing changes hardware voice parameters; it does not crossfade recorded audio.
Voice edits support undo, but the current Performance, Bank and Tuning tools do not. Receiving/sending data and writing stored banks are separate actions; keep a backup before deliberate memory writes.
TX81Z editor FAQ
Does morphing create a new preset?
The implemented Morph page blends voice parameters from up to four corner voices and can save the result as a normal editor preset.
Can I import existing SysEx banks?
The library supports single voices and 32-voice .syx banks. Bank transfer to a real TX81Z still needs the documented hardware validation pass.
Are the effects computer audio effects?
No. Tuning & FX controls the TX81Z’s own MIDI/device settings; the editor does not process its audio outputs.
Can I order the Windows plugin now?
No. This product is not yet for sale, and a Windows release has not been verified.
